We are having a New Moon in Cancer on June 23rd/24th, depending on your location. New Moons are the beginning of a new wave of energy influencing the upcoming month. However, the astrological configurations at this time have a stronger influence over the following two weeks.⠀
This New Moon occurs a few days after the Sun entered Cancer, which always happens on the Solstice, when the Sun’s rays are directly over the Tropic of Cancer. The twelve-sign zodiac that we use is divided based on the relationship between the Earth and the Sun’s rays. The December Solstice occurs when the Sun is aligned with the Tropic of Capricorn and the Equinoxes occur when it is aligned with the Equator, which is where Aries and Libra are initiated.
Cancer is associated with nurturing, emotional bonding, vulnerability, and security. It is about family, comforts, and domestic life, and can be very protective with all of those things. Being ruled by the Moon, it is the most emotionally fluctuating sign. Symbolized by the Crab, Cancer feels most comfortable in its “shell,” which can be the home or whatever one is most familiar and comfortable with.⠀
Mercury, the planet of the mind and communication, entered Cancer a few days before this New Moon and is also aligned with it. The next few weeks will be a period of communicating with feeling and sensitivity. We may be more thoughtful and emotionally considerate in the way we express our words to others. Our minds may be more focused on the way things make us feel.⠀
At the time of this New Moon, Venus is in a tight trine to Pluto, which will be exact just under six hours afterward. It will be strongest during the days around the New Moon, but will still be relevant for the whole month. For some people, this can be a great or even empowering time for finances or regarding the value of something in our lives. We may experience a deepening in our relationships, whether in our love life or with our friendships. Love can be passionate, transforming, and regenerating.⠀
